Need another great goal to keep you moving?
#CanadaMoves - Race Directors unite to move Canadians from coast to coast for Canadian Mental Health Association
The BlueShore Mother's Day Run joins other race organizers to inspire Canadians from coast to coast to move this Wednesday, June 3rd to mark Global Running Day.
Organizers of the largest road races from Newfoundland to Vancouver are inviting Canadians to register for free and log your walking, running, jogging and wheelchair kilometers to be part of a nation-wide initiative to celebrate movement. While there is no cost to register, anyone who is in a position to donate can give to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), the charity being supported by this national collaboration.
Exercise is one of the most effective ways to improve your mental health. Running changes lives but it can’t fix all mental health issues. CMHA provides programming and resources to 330 communities across the country and now, more than ever, it is important to support friends, family and our fellow community members and can do so by donating to CMHA.”
Before or after getting out to move, Canadians are invited to tune in to their favourite road race social media pages for a first-of-its-kind Facebook Live Relay. The digital relay experience will start in Atlantic Canada at 12:00 p.m. ADT and will move across the country starting at noon in each time zone, ending in British Columbia. Each province will feature athlete Q & As, run crew highlights and race directors talking about what running and being active means to them.
Post your photos of you moving and share on Facebook, tag us on Instagram and use the hashtag #canadamoves. Organizers are reminding Canadians to run with people from your household and follow all rules and regulations put in place by municipal, provincial and federal governments and public health agencies.
“We're all in this together, so let's remember what it's like to run together... apart.”

Some of our amazing sponsors of the BlueShore Mother's Day Run have sent us tips to share with you during these unexpected times. Executive Chef, Geoff Carkner: The Westin Bayshore, Vancouver
High in fiber, phytonutrients and antioxidants – not to mention choline, which aids in memory and learning – this vegetable is a nutrient-dense powerhouse that taste delicious when prepared and seasoned to perfection. The orange used in this recipe adds a nice zesty flavour while providing an extra hit of Vitamin C during a time when our bodies need it the most. Enjoy this tasty vegetarian dish as an appetizer, mid-day snack, or on the side with your favourite protein!
1. Preheat oven to 375ºF (190ºC).
2. Place whole cauliflower, stem end down, in a large Dutch oven or deep casserole dish.
3. In a small bowl, mix oil, orange zest/juice and saffron. Pour evenly over cauliflower, rubbing with hands to evenly distribute. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
4. Bake, uncovered, for 40 to 45 minutes, or until tender (see note, below).
5. Remove from oven; pour coconut milk and water evenly over cauliflower. Return to oven and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes.
6. Remove from oven. Sprinkle with parsley and hazelnuts immediately before cutting into quarters and serving. Serve hot.
7. Note: If you prefer your cauliflower crisp, do the initial baking (before adding the coconut milk) for 25 to 30 minutes instead of for the full 45 minutes; as sizes of cauliflower vary, the cooking time varies as well. Start checking for doneness after 25 minutes and then continue to check at 5-minute intervals.
With the arrival and spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us are either in quarantine, self-isolation or working from home to encourage social distancing. Some non-essential businesses have closed to help limit the spread of this virus, but there are questions on how to handle your automotive needs during this time. We, at Docksteader Subaru, are here to help you answer some of these questions.
1. Can I refuel my car?
Most Gas stations are remaining open as they are seen as an essential service, and it is a good time to refuel your car as fuel prices are much lower in most of the country right now. If you are going to head out and refuel your car, try going outside peak hours to limit your contact with people and pay at the pump station if you can. Try and limit your exposure by using paper towels or disposable gloves when handling the fuel pump. Always make sure you use hand sanitizer before returning and touching anything inside your car.
2. Making sure your car is clean and sanitized
It is a good time to give your car that much needed cleaning. The next time you head out for a drive, give your car a good clean before you go. Target the areas that are typically touched the most, such as the door handles, seatbelts, steering wheel, gear selector, turn-signal, centre console and any buttons you use frequently. A good product to use are Lysol wipes, but you can also use rubbing alcohol on a microfibre towel. If you are looking for an approved list of hard surface cleaners that will sanitize and disinfect effectively, here is a list from Health Canada. Quick tip - don’t use bleach in your car as it can cause discolouration and damage.
3. What if I need to service my car?
Servicing your car or scheduling it in for some needed maintenance is still important. Our service and parts department are still open to help keep your vehicle safe. You can book your service appointment online and we will arrange a member of our staff to pick up and drop off your vehicle, so you don’t need to worry about leaving your home. We will also make sure your vehicle is clean and sanitized upon delivery. With Venue Vision, you can also complete your payments online.
4. What if I still want to buy a car?
As people are moving to an even more digital way of life, companies are beginning to launch new online platforms so you can continue engaging with your favourite brand from the comfort of your home. At Docksteader Subaru, we are making digital solutions for vehicle purchase a reality. You can now shop online on our website and get in touch with a Sales Consultant to conduct a virtual vehicle walkaround. We know that getting behind the wheel gives you a true feel for the car, so we will bring the vehicle to you for a test drive. We can also prepare the paperwork through one of our virtual channels and take deposits over the phone. To find out more about these services, call us on (604) 325 1000 or visit our website to find out more.

Thank you to the BlueShore Mother’s Day Run 2019 for supporting Linden’s wish! A hospital stay for a child is a hard thing. In Linden’s case, his parents took turns being by his bedside while the six-year-old endured four months of treatments for lymphoma. Linden’s treatment also meant time away from his sister, Keira. After all of that, Linden’s granted wish to go to Disneyland represented more than just a fun opportunity to enjoy the California sunshine, rides and storybook characters. His wish was a chance for his family to be together. Adding to the magic, Linden was given the honour of opening the gates to the park for the day, as Mickey Mouse himself looked on! Thank you to the BlueShore Mother’s Day Run Vancouver participants and organizers for granting Linden’s wish!

Make A Wish BC and Yukon is the Official Charity of the BlueShore Mother's Day Run. Thanks to the contributions of the participants and the race organizers, the event grants at least one WISH. Our most recent recipient has been announced and it is Jackson who wished to go to Hawaii!
Thank you to the BlueShore Financial Mother’s Day Run for supporting Jackson’s wish! “Jackson had a wonderful time in Hawaii. He really enjoyed all the different pools and hot tubs, and his swimming has come a long way in a short time! He enjoyed playing in the sand at the beach, sunset walks and seeing large sea turtles swimming in a nearby bay. We went on a helicopter tour of the island as well, and he really enjoyed it. Our taxi driver gave Jackson a stuffed whale which is now his favourite. On the way home, Jackson got to make an announcement on the airplane ... and he became fast friends with one of the flight attendants. He saw the cockpit and met the pilots on both our flights and he enjoyed seeing all the buttons. Overall, he felt very special on the trip. Everyone knew his name and treated him like royalty, and it made it so much more special. Chris and I want to thank you for making this trip possible. It was lovely to make memories on an actual vacation, where he could just be a kid and not also a patient. We couldn’t have done it without you.” - Ashly, Jackson’s mom

“We can’t thank you enough for making Elan’s wish trip so incredibly special for our entire family. It has been years since we’ve gone on a family vacation like this. I wish you could see Elan’s face when she sees the pictures and when we talk about things we did on our trip… truly priceless. We are all sad that it is over, but we have some amazing memories!!”
